A near-capacity audience in Market Drayton Festival Centre last Sunday, was treated to an exceptional concert by the Fine Arts Brass Ensemble as part of this year's lively Shropshire Music Season. The Ensemble, a Brass Quintet comprising of two trumpets, a French Horn, Tuba and Trombone, began by rhythmic clapping as the audiences' applause died down, interspersed with instrumental solos . They had based the piece on a Nigerian war dance; it was a most effective start . In the first half, we were treated to an arrangement of the Bach A minor Violin Concerto and a performance of Malcolm Arnold's First Brass Quintet, plus other pieces . After the interval, musical examples of the development of Jazz Music in America , gave the audience a fascinating insight into this genre, suitably enhanced by the use of a variety of mutes, to provide fabulous contrasts in the sounds . This was a performance of the highest calibre, given in a superb facility, which has been developed to the highest standards over the past thirty years in Market Drayton . Many of the audience had travelled from Shrewsbury and beyond, a thoroughly worthwhile journey . Congratulations to Shropshire Music Trust and Festival Drayton Centre for another tremendous partnership. Colin Bates" - Shropshire Music Trust @ Festival Drayton Centre
