Hiya Daniel,

First of all congratulations on passing grade one jazz!! The trumpet is a great instrument to play and is incredibly versatile. Don't get too disheartened though, everyone has off-days - me included!!! I'm afraid it's the nature of playing ANY brass instrument so you're not alone.

Perhaps on the days you're not playing so well is the result of not being warmed up enough? Warming up is really important and often takes a bit longer than you think - sometimes I can be warmed up in 5 minutes, other times it can take me a good half hour to get into the swing of things. Have you tried buzzing before you even get the instrument out of it's case, then on the mouthpiece? I find this works for me.

Good luck with it all and hang on in there!!!

Angela
